Martello Fiore is the first monograph and artist’s book by Gabriele Silli. The pages are populated by a visual range of decomposed, rotten, putrescent and viscous images that give rise to a sort of epic of decomposition. Digested but not vanished, the hidden negative emerges from the crystalline image of a Western Culture in decay.

Here, the page becomes the place to contemplate the maceration and the erosion of the form, the support that validates the rewriting, the manipulation, reinterpretation, recomposition and redetermination of both  paper’s two-dimensionality and the three-dimensionality of the sculptural clusters.

Silli intervenes with acids, pigments, chemical substances, even organic substances, on photocopies, newspaper pages, medical documents, prints, waste, organic and inorganic elements, corrupting the original feeling and generating a dark and seductive narration that invokes the disarming and poetic potentiality of what decomposes and where the most sinister past lies, along the future’s darkest ghosts.
