Liber Artificis
The book project started in Romania in 2007 with “Carte de Artist” (English: artist book). After that the book was produced in 12 regions of the world, China, Ireland, Sweden, Armenia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Berlin, Athens for documenta 14 and last one in Hong Kong in 2018.
Each series is published in an edition of 200 to 1000 copies. Every book contains a collection of 20–30 value-free (non-organic) objects found in public spaces. These objects are arranged on the blank pages of the book and pressed using around 30 tons of pressure.
This unique printing method embosses the objects across several pages. The book also features a QR code linking to an artist’s film, which documents the process—from street collecting to printing, signing, and foil-wrapping—presented as a kind of road movie.
The present issue, number 13, is produced in Rome for LAVINIA in the Villa Borghese park, a project by Ghella supported by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali.
