NERO is an international publishing house devoted to art, criticism and contemporary culture. Founded in Rome in 2004, it publishes artists’ books, catalogs, editions and essays.

NERO explores present and future imaginaries beyond any field of specialization, format or code – as visual arts, music, philosophy, politics, aesthetics or fictional narrations – extensively investigating unconventional perspectives and provocative outlooks to decipher the essence of this ever changing reality.

Piersandra Di Matteo

is a performing arts theorist, curator, and dramaturg. Her research encompasses contemporary theatre, the politics of voice and listening, curatorial practices, and accessibility in the arts. She is affiliated with PerLA | Performance Epistemologies Research Lab and SSH | Sound Studies Hub at Università Iuav of Venice, where she teaches Curating Performing Arts. Di Matteo has been invited to lecture and lead seminars at prestigious international universities and research centers, including locations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Montréal, Amsterdam, New York City, Philadelphia, and São Paulo. She is widely recognized for her extensive collaboration with Italian theatre director Romeo Castellucci, serving as his theoretical collaborator and dramaturg in renowned theatres worldwide. Di Matteo has held positions as Artistic Director of the Short Theatre Festival (Rome, 2021–2024) and the Atlas of Transitions Biennale (Bologna, 2017–2020). She is currently nominated as Visiting Associate Research Scholar at the Italian Academy at Columbia University (Spring 2026).
